Legacy BP/BL Power Window Switch Replacement

with No Comments

The driver’s seat power window switch is broken, so I would like to replace it.

First, remove the door handle cover to remove the door lining. Insert a flathead screwdriver or the like into the upper part of the cover and pry it open. It’s quite hard.

By the way, if you pry it open from the bottom of the handle, it will be easy to break because the bottom claw is larger, so it’s better to open from the top.

There is one screw on the top and bottom each, so remove it.

Next, remove the small panel behind the doorknob. Set the switch to the lock side and pry it through the gap.

It’s like this.

Remove the screw inside.

Then pull off the triangular cover.

Then pull the lining and remove it. At first I used plastic tire levers to widen the gap. Pull the door lining by hand from the floating gap and remove it.

Next, remove the door lock/unlock wire. There are 2 wires, each one is different, so remember it for when you put it back.

Finally, disconnect the power window switch and door courtesy light connector.

Here is the switch I got second hand. Now I will replace it.

The switch is held by 4 screws, remove them.

The switch on the driver’s side is broken like this. Please note that the power window motor may burn if left as it is.

Install in reverse order.

Finally, do the initial configuration of the switch. If you do not set the initial settings, it will behave mysteriously like the window is stuck in the middle.

  1. Turn on the ignition and close the door.
  2. Hold the switch in the “up” direction for 3 seconds with the driver’s seat glass fully closed.
  3. After confirming the operation, it is completed.
