A trip along the National Highway, or rather, the terrible Route 352. This time I’m finally at the outer circumference of Lake Okutadami.
As you can see, the width of the road makes it difficult to pass each other. Also, there will be a lot of “Washing Over” that I talked about in the previous video.
Before I left, I looked up the route on Google Maps and it looked like a fun road with ninety-nine twists and turns, so I decided to give it a try, but around this point I started to feel that it wasn’t what I expected. Those fears were true, and this narrow, twisty road continues for about 30km.
In a previous video, I uploaded a “30km non-stop mountain pass road without traffic lights [Nichien Momiji Line], and the road there was wide enough and a very fun winding ride. But, when this road is 30km long, I have a bad feeling about it. I thought many times to turn back, but I didn’t want to go back the same way I came, so I decided to keep going.
Later on, I will realize that it was a huge mistake.
The distance to Koide I.C. is written in some places, but it says “52km ahead” even though I have just reached the pass. Now that I think about it, at this point I probably should’ve understand “please understand.”
As you can see, the river crosses the road. The road has collapsed, probably due to the flow of water. There wasn’t a lot of water that day, but the water will probably rise after it rains. If that happens, riding a bike can be scary.
There are “mobile phone call areas” in some places. In case of an emergency, you will have to move to this area.
It’s hard to tell in the photo, but the right side is a sheer cliff. Even if I make a mistake, I don’t want to rush into it at overspeed. It’s referred to as the “Jukai Line (The Sea of Trees Line)”, so I can often see the scenery running through the forest, but occasionally I can see open views like this one. However, the lack of popularity makes me worry “What if something happens here?”.
There was a little open area so I took a short break.
It was a place where I could see Lake Okutadami. And since the GoPro’s battery ran out, here are some images of the drive recorder.
Water is flowing down from the road like a waterfall. There are many places like this, so I don’t want to ride on a sport bike.
When I finally crossed the mountain pass, which was a complete ordeal, I arrived at an open area and felt a great sense of relief. When I looked into it later, it seemed like this was a place called “Oku-Tadami Lake Pleasure Boat Ginzandaira Pier”. After taking a break at the parking lot here, I headed towards Uonuma through Shiori Pass. I thought to myself, “There will never be such a hard part again”.
What? There is something written on the information board.
It said “Road Closed”.
At this point it was 15:40. I hurriedly looked at the map on Google Maps and found that there was a bypass called “Okutadami Silver Line”, but that road was closed to motorcycles. I had no choice to turn back the way I had come.
I had nothing to say and for some reason I couldn’t stop crying. When going to the Sea of Trees Line, I highly recommend that you plan carefully before going. Really.
