I came to “Tonohetsuri” for the first time in about 20 years.
I’m always confusing which parking lot is better in these tourist spots. I’d like to park as close as possible, but when I go ahead, it’s full and I often turn back.
Also, I thought it was free, but it’s not.
“Hetsuri” is the Aizu dialect, which means a steep cliff approaching a river. The soft rocks are columnar cliffs formed by the effects of erosion and weathering over the years. Large-scale strange rocks are lined up over a total length of 200m. Due to its unique shape, it was designated as a national natural monument in 1943.
When I climbed the steep stone steps, there was a small shrine.
On the way back, I stopped at Tonohetsuri Station which is pretty. I want to come by train someday.
